Sotogrande International School GB Padel players to compete with the best in the world next week!
Frankie Batt, Ben Burgess, Henry Marais and Tilly Payne, the Sotogrande International School students representing Great Britain in the XI World Junior Padel Championship next week, are packed and ready to go.
Having spent the whole summer, and the few weeks since term started training hard, the four SIS students will meet up with the rest of the GB team and GB Head Coach, Mauri Andrini on Saturday at La Reserva for one last training session.
On Sunday they head off to La Candado Club in Malaga, for the World Championship Opening Ceremony along with National teams from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Finland, Italy, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay and USA.
There are two competitions during the week, the Open Championship and the World Junior Teams Championship. The Open begins on Monday. Tilly, Ben and Henry will all have an early start with all of them playing Spanish qualifying pairs at 9am. Frankie and his partner will play at 11.30.
The following day Ben & Henry will play Argentina, Tilly and her partner Portugal and Frankie Uruguay.
After that the Junior Teams Championship will start, where last time in Mexico Team GB was placed third. Team Captain, Frankie Batt said: “I am proud and excited to be representing Great Britain again.” Frankie has already represented GB in three previous Championships, but for Tilly, Ben and Henry it will be a new experience.
He added: “We would like to thank all our sponsors: Sotogrande International School, La Reserva Club, Sotogrande, Bristow Property Group, Abbeygate Insurance, Tailormade Healthcare Solutions, Udesign, and eZeCars for their support, and hope that lots of people make the trip to Malaga to cheer us on.”
The Championship begins with the Opening Ceremony on Sunday 8th October, and play begins the next day with the Open competition.
