Dear Parents and Guardians,
Wow, the first full week back after the Christmas break has been extremely busy,
exhausting and fun!
Last weekend, Mr Wix and Miss Laura attended an Inspired event at Berklee College
of Music, Valencia. The event allowed specialists from around the world to connect,
share ideas and work with Berklee to create a joint vision for our partnership. I am
pleased to share some exciting outcomes of the meetings:
● A 3-day, Berklee Music Workshop delivered by Berklee artists and faculty at
SIS to happen before the school year ends.
● A possible trip for keen older music students to Berklee’s Valencia campus for
● Visiting Berklee artists and faculty to support our Summer Music Camps and
Summer Music Programs.
● The development of an Elite Music Programme for students who wish to
intensify their music education and begin preparing for successful entry and
scholarship to premier music schools and universities, such as Berklee.
● Access to free online courses. More details of this will follow.
As a school, we strive to provide a vast array of opportunities for our students to help them discover their unique interests, gifts and talents.
The partnership between Inspired and Berklee will provide exciting pathways for our music students to progress, and we look forward to further growing and enhancing this provision.
Over the holiday, building company Detea did not stop! They have been continuously working to clear the ground ready for laying the foundations of our new building. This process involved transplanting over 20 trees to green areas around the boundaries of the campus. The commitment to environmental principles is critical for us, as we continue to educate ourselves and our students about the role we can play in protecting our environment. On Friday 31st of January, we will continue with our Climate Change Awareness Days, as we encourage students to ‘travel green to school’. We hope you continue to support this initiative.
This weekend a small group of students, along with Mrs McCann, will be visiting our sister Inspired school, St Johns, Belgium. Inspired by the TedX talks they took part in last year at SIS, the St John’ss students decided this year to host an event of their own. We wish our students the very best of luck as they prepare to represent SIS at this event.
Finally, Sotogrande International Language Academy (SILA), has started the year offering additional lessons for students who wish to begin preparing for formal Cervantes exams. These professional-level exams are required for entrance to Spanish universities for non-Spanish students. These classes will be offered initially to primary students and extended to secondary students in the future. SILA also provides courses for parents, from beginners to advanced speakers, who are seeking professional (business) level Cervantes language exam courses. To help support parents in day to day life, SILA offers classes and language exchanges in conversational Spanish. To find out more, please contact Teresa Pons firstname.lastname@example.org
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
