Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your support at the Fireworks Party last week. It was an amazing night with some fantastic performances from our talented students. Mr Wix, Mr Luis and the peripatetic team really do inspire our musicians to create magic. I would also like to thank the PTA for their hard work and dedication in organising such a wonderful event for our community. A few unlucky staff members, myself included, found themselves in the stocks taking a huge number of sponges to the face, all in the name of charity!
The next PTA event will be the ever-popular Christmas Market, taking place on Saturday the 14th of December. Raffle tickets will be sent home with students next week.
Whilst we were all enjoying ourselves on Friday evening, our PE team, along with two teams of students, were in the UK taking part in the International Schools Athletic Association (ISAA) first meeting of the year. This group is made up of top flight International Schools, including TASIS UK, The British School in the Netherlands, International School of Geneva, International School Basel, ACS Cobham and Cairo American College.
Our two U18 teams took part in the football tournament and performed brilliantly. The girl’s team received recognition for their teamwork, dedication and sportsmanship, both on and off the pitch, while the boy’s team finished as champions, beating IS Geneva in the final. Two of our students were named ‘Positional Player of the Tournament’, Bradley C received the trophy for the ‘Defender of the Tournament’ and Xavier M took the trophy for ‘Goalkeeper of the Tournament’. Please join me in congratulating the teams, we are really proud of their achievement. I would also like to thank the staff who have worked tirelessly with the footballers to support their growth and the team who travelled to the UK with the students making this opportunity possible.
Continuing with sports news and successes, I would like to congratulate Jason Floyd Golf Junior Elite Golf student, Carl S, on his impressive performance at the recent Triple A European Masters competition. Despite being only 15 years old, he entered and won the U21 category! Read a full review here
We will be entering an SIS team in the ISAA golf tournament later this year, buoyed by the outcome of these events, and have high hopes for our golf squad.
Creating experiences such as these form part of our strategic plan for competitive sports. We will be further developing exciting opportunities for students of all ages so that more students have the chance to represent SIS at big events. This drive will take time to develop, however, the teams are fuelled by this recent victory and are already looking for more tours and hosting opportunities.
Finally, this week the students voted for the Mo that the staff should grow. Several trusting teachers and support staff have put themselves at the mercy of the students to vote for the style of moustache that each of them should grow. This weekend, we will be sharpening the razor blades to create our facial masterpieces. To donate to the team, please click on this LINK.
Best wishes,
Jak Kearney
