Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope the half-term break allowed you to relax and enjoy some quality time with your children. We ended the last half term in the same way we started the year, gathered together for a whole school assembly in the beautiful sunshine. The theme was to recognise and celebrate the great work of the United Nations. It was a touching moment, watching our students proudly representing their home nations.
At the assembly, I announced the exciting news that we have signed a building work contract for the new Secondary School. We are expecting work to commence clearing the site on Wednesday 13th. The selected company, DETEA, are an experienced building company that has built a large number of schools. For more information about DETEA please click this link. Once the work starts I will ask them to write and formally introduce themselves to our community.
November also sees the start of the famous month of moustaches, ‘Movember’. Gentlemen all around the world use the month to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate and testicular cancer. This year I am among the brave chaps from SIS who have volunteered to grow a ‘tache. As we like to involve the whole community we will be asking students to select the style of moustache they think we should grow…..watch this space for more info and photos! You can support us by donating to the official Movember fundraising page here please.
I would like to wish our varsity U19’s boys and girls football teams good luck, as they travel to London to represent SIS for the first time in the prestigious ISAA Football Tournament. We are very excited to have entered such a distinguished tournament where schools from all over the world will be participating and believe this to be a great first step to exciting times ahead for sport at SIS.
On the 23rd of November, we are holding an Early Years Open Day. This event is for non-SIS families with children between 2 and 6 years old who want to discover more about our Reggio Emilia inspired International Baccalaureate curriculum. If you have any friends who would like to attend the open day please ask them to complete the attached form.
Finally, I leave you with an open invite to the PTA Fireworks event tonight. Please note tickets for the event are available for purchase on the gate from 7pm. Like all of our community events, all student in M2 or below must be accompanied by an adult for entry into the event.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
