Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to begin by thanking you all for your help and support with our Climate Change Awareness Day last Friday. We began the day with “travel to school in a green way” which was a great success and the theme continued throughout the day. The impact on the environment was instantaneously positive as the traffic was significantly reduced.  Thank you for supporting this event and whilst we will be doing this as a monthly occurrence, we encourage you to engage in “travel to school in a green way” every day! Later in the evening, we celebrated the PTA Back to School Party. Over 30 different acts performed live on stage as we celebrated our return to school. The Back to School Party is a lovely event that enables new families to connect with our community, whilst being thoroughly entertained. During the event, we further reinforced our first Climate Change Awareness Day with a ‘blackout’ as a way to powerfully acknowledge our driver for the day. Friday was a wonderful community day and I would publicly like to thank and congratulate all of our PTA volunteers for helping us to make the day a huge success.

If you are keen to support the PTA, there will be a meeting held in the cantina on Thursday 10th Oct at 9am. The purpose of the PTA is to focus on events and fundraising. This will be a meeting to share projects for the year and engage new people to help drive even bigger, better and more community engaging events.

Over the weekend, Jason Floyd hosted the first golf tournament of the year, with some amazing results from our young golfers, Wigo W, Tiger C and Carl S. Read a full review of the tournament here

This week we ran our D2 Internal Assessment Day for Science with students creating and running their own experiments across all 4 sciences. This experience will contribute to 20% of their final grade. Each year the creativity of our students connected with their scientific skills allows them to develop some outstanding assessments and reach the highest grades. Last year some of the students used these projects, connected with their Extended Essays as reference points in applications and subsequent interviews for science courses at university. I would like to thank the students for their time over the day and the science team for their flexibility and dedication to allowing our students to shine.

Finally, I would like to advertise an environmental charity event, which is being organised by one of our parents. The “Towards Nature” event will take place in Marbella on October 14th and 15th. Students from across our school will be taking the stage to share musical performances, give speeches and host the event as masters of ceremony. We would be delighted if you joined us. Have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,
Jak Kearney
