Global Recognition for Athletes in Education
The Academic Centres for Excellence in Sport (ACES) Programme is a unique, structured pathway, offering a solution to the demands of combining elite sport and education. Coupling an outstanding international education at Sotogrande International School (SIS) with personalised full-time golf or tennis programmes at the Jason Floyd Golf Academy or SotoTennis Academy. Aspiring young sports people are provided with the best possible opportunity to succeed in their field.
Sotogrande International School and the Sporting Academies offer a bespoke service for students from the age of 11, providing individualised programmes designed to meet each student’s personal needs.
Future ACES – 11 to 14 year olds
This is the start of the ACES ladder for our youngest aspiring sports people. Providing our future stars with the best opportunity to get a step ahead of their competition with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). Students attend SIS between 9am and 4pm (standard school day), and follow the full MYP programme, before leaving to attend their specialist sporting academy after school to develop their golf/tennis skills.
Junior ACES – 14 to 16 year olds
Taking the combination of sport and education to the next level. Junior ACES students complete the core subjects of the MYP during morning sessions at SIS 9am-1pm, before leaving to attend their specialist sporting academy in the afternoons. This carefully crafted timetable ensures students have ample time for both academic and sporting education.
Elite ACES – 16 to 18 year olds
Elite ACES students have shown commitment, dedication and success in both their academic and sporting studies and are working towards receiving a sporting scholarship at university. Students study for 2 or 3 A-Levels and prepare for their SAT examinations. The students attend school in the afternoons, typically lessons will run daily between 2pm and 7pm, allowing time for their sports training every morning.
Jason Floyd Golf Academy (JFGA)
The Jason Floyd Golf Academy understand golf is an amazing tool to educate our Student-Athletes not only in Athletic Development but also in the development of Character and Personal Etiquette. They believe every Student-Athlete is an individual and requires a programme based around their personal needs. There’s no “one size fits all” in golf, we are all different shapes and sizes and have different capabilities, which all need to be catered for. Their passion is in the success of our Student-Athletes both on and off the golf course.
The JFGA is designed and developed around a ‘boutique’ approach and philosophy to golf instruction, ensuring all students receive personalised programmes in the Technical, Physical and Mental aspects specific to their individual game, guaranteeing performance improvements and learning.
SotoTennis Academy (STA)
Led by Daniel Kiernan, former British #1 doubles player, SotoTennis Academy is a leading Tennis Academy based in Sotogrande. STA provides the perfect environment for passionate young tennis players aiming for a future in the game, whether U.S. College, European University or the Professional Tour. The natural ups and downs of Dan’s own professional tennis journey inspired the Academy’s philosophy that tennis is a vehicle to success both on and off the court, and ultimately provided an understanding of:
- What is needed for a tennis player to feel special within a training environment
- The importance of having a clear purpose and direction in their sport
- The need for a complete view of the individual’s development and goals, on and off the court
Sport and Education
STA believes its players deserve the best academic opportunities as this is crucial to long-term development – there doesn’t need to be a compromise involved between full-time tennis training and achieving an excellent education. STA is proud to be one of the few leading Tennis Academies who can confidently offer world-class academics alongside the full-time tennis programmes (ACES).
