An Inspired School

The time passed really quickly, and we had to work extremely hard to achieve what we did on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th of February. As part of the IB Diploma Year 1, CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), is a key component of the course and challenges volunteer students to organise a project collaboratively. This year our challenge was to put on a music festival, SotoRox.

Sotorox is an event put on every 4 years by SIS, and is as big as it gets with regards to any of the productions put on by Sotogrande International School.

This year, over 160 students between the ages of 7 to 18 shared the stage to perform a selection of live music, complete with choreography, a stunning light show, pyrotechnics and special effects.

The purpose of this CAS project was to raise money for Association Tiwizi in Asni, Morocco. All the proceeds from the event are going towards building 2 new classrooms, the first village library and study space for the Asni community. This is done so the students who organised SotoRox also go to Morocco to live and work hand in hand with the Asni community on developing this project.

I contributed to the project and put my heart and soul into it as I was Event Manager and Entertainment Manager. My responsibilities included making sure that all the different project teams (catering, sales, marketing) were on task, and setting and meeting weekly targets.

So many people were involved in order to make the event successful and it would not have been possible without the help of them all. As Entertainment Manager, I had to chase people to learn their parts, to perform convincingly, to get the right things on stage, to arrange the videos for behind the performers, to prepare the dancers, and more. It was a challenging concept, but I am so proud of everyone around me to have pulled together and contributed their part to the bigger project, and been part of this brilliant event.

Overall, the journey was really eye-opening and unforgettable. Sometimes I wanted to pull out my hair, or couldn’t see an end to the amount of work still to do, but seeing the results of all our hard work truly did something to me. If I had the chance to do it all again, I would take it faster than anyone could.

Congratulations to everyone who helped to plan the event, performed and supported the D1 CAS team.
