Message from the Head
As the year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support of SIS. This year has been truly amazing, we have exceeded goals in many directions and provided so many more opportunities for students to explore their talents. This week has been no different with some amazing events. On Tuesday EC2 held their end-of year celebration and we witnessed the long awaited performance of the primary show, Charlie. The evening was stunning and was an opportunity for our younger students to display their talents on stage. On Wednesday morning the P1 children enjoyed their end-of-year celebration event, then later in the day we had the M5 graduation. This was was a very touching event, where we celebrated the achievements of the students and sadly, said goodbye to some. The P6 graduation yesterday was an emotional event, seeing our oldest students in primary transition to secondary was a true delight. This was followed by the fashion show, which was a student led CAS event for The Kindred Project. We are very excited to announce that four Sotogrande International School students have been selected for the Great Britain Junior Padel Team at the World Championships this year. D1 student Frankie Batt, and M2 students Ben Burgess, Charlotte Brien and Tilly Payne. Read their blog to follow their journey to the final! Today was a lovely celebration of student achievements over the year. Thank you for your attendance at all of these events. Your support is noted and valued, helping to make this a true learning community. To help us to continue to improve, we would deeply value your feedback and ask you to complete this online multiple-choice survey. We are looking forward to seeing you bight and early on Tuesday 5th September before 8.50am, with full school uniform (see below). Have a wonderful holiday! Best wishes James Kearney
Whole School News Yearbook 2017 available! Introduction of Jose Miguel, the new Food Manager of the International School of Sotogrande. Hello everyone; My name is José Miguel Ledesma and from July 1st 2017. I will be the new Food Manager of the International School of Sotogrande. These are some logical questions for parents to ask and they have to be easy to answer; since a good dietary education will lay the foundation for our children´s future health. When the school board offered the post to me I accepted, but I knew that it will not be an easy job. It will be a good challenge for me to draw on my knowledge and experience to try and prepare food that is as healthy as possible, and that tastes really good. This will help our children to be happier and healthier. ![]()
I know that the first few months will be hard for me; new students joining the school, new kitchen, new staff, new parents … but this motivates me to try to do something better. Producing food that is more tasty and with greater variety. With regards to this I request your patience as I work hard to transform the expereince that your children have when they eat at the Cantina. As for my education, I am a graduate in Economics and 5 years ago I discovered my passion for cooking, since then I have worked in kitchens and feel I have really found my purpose in life. I studied a Masters in Cooking at the School of Hospitality of Seville, after which I began my practices in the Restaurant Schilo in Finca Cortesín and from there I worked in Gibraltar as a Chief in a Kitchen, where I have been until I was called by the School to undertake this new adventure. As some of my merits, last year I was the winner of the best tapa in the III Tuna Fair of Sotogrande and Semifinalist in the contest “Masters of the Cruzcampo tapa”. Best wishes Jose Miguel School uniform for new school year The school uniform is now available at El Corte Inglés Algeciras and Marbella. Community PTA News ![]() Alumni Reunion On Friday night, SIS hosted the 4th Alumni Reunion on our campus. A record number of staff attended this year, alongside alumni going back over 14 years. The evening started with the Doug Stewart Memorial Football game, with teams from the Staff, Alumni and this year’s graduating students competing. ![]() This was followed by drinks and tapas, with a speech from Flora Sträuli, one of the Alumni Executive, and then Jamie Templeton on the work of our SIS NGO, The Kindred Project. Former students overwhelmingly voted Jamie as the winner of this year’s Alumni Award. Following this we then had one of the highlights of the evening as Kerry Wickersham, our Music Teacher volunteered to have his distinctive beard shaved for charity. Donations for this event raised 263.75€ for The Kindred Project. The evening then continued with a meal, before the school bus took the revelers on to party on through the night at Chambao! Remember if you are an alumni and you would like to see all the photos, please follow the link to the Alumni page and join. |
