Message from the Head
Thank you for your support at the Christmas fair, next year I will try and avoid the beard getting stuck whilst abseiling!! We have had a busy week as always at SIS; with numerous performances from the SIS stage show extravaganza on Monday evening to the staff Pantomime today. Thank you to all the staff who have worked so hard to create some magic on the run up to Christmas. The EC1 and 2 children certainly stepped up to the stage and shone! It was lovely being able to see them take the spotlight! The P1and P2 show, Christmas Around the World, was a lovely display of international mindedness and very educational! The P3 alternative Christmas play, which was delivered 100% in Spanish, was equally entertaining. These shows displayed our students’ confidence to perform in both English and Spanish. Our D1 students have now completed their group 4 science projects, which were themed around “the science behind Christmas”. Students displayed their efforts on Tuesday afternoon. The primary students who were attending when I visited were really engaged in the interactive science investigations that our students had created. Wednesday saw Guinness world record holder and 2 time World Memory Champion David Thomas return to run a 1day intensive revision day for students in D2. They should now be fully geared up for the run up to the mock exams in January. I would like to extend my congratulations to the Student council for their shoebox initiative. We delivered over 100 boxes to Hogar Betania on Wednesday night. This morning 60 keen and determined athletes (students, parents & staff) braved the chilly waters of the swimming pool to complete the first SIS Polar Bear challenge. Never has a cup of hot chocolate been so welcome! I would also like to express my sincerest thanks for your ongoing support and wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas, full of fun and festive cheer. I look forward to welcoming you back in 2016 for another wonderful year at SIS. Happy Christmas, Jak Kearney

Opera in the courtyard On Tuesday morning Primary students were treated to a short and spine-tingling performance in the courtyard by famous Russian opera star Maria Gulik. Ms Gulik is in Sotogrande to visit some old friends who happen to have children at our school. Message from Emma Butler I would like to thank all the teachers and students who helped prepare and who performed in the three wonderful Christmas performances from this week. In total over 170 students from EC1 to P3 took part.
Theatre Festival Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th December Last week we spent two evenings celebrating the work of our D1 Theatre Arts group with a devised piece called “Cinders, the M4 Elective group performing a scripted piece “The Audition”, a variety of LAMDA monologues and showcase work from the M2 drama groups who performed two mime and movement works based on the theme of The Elements. Our very own Anne Adamson performed a monologue by Alan Bennett from the Talking Heads series, which was very poignant and moving. Over 45 students were involved supported by our wonderful lighting technicians and of course a packed audience of staff and parents for both performances. Comments such as “Fantastic performances” and “I was so delighted and impressed with the high standard of acting and producing” were ringing in our ears on the Thursday when we all finally landed on our feet! GCP December Update It has been a very exciting term for our curious and enterprising GCP students as from the beginning of the year they have been exposed to different service learning opportunities. They have organised 4 Mufti Days and activities for the International Human Rights Day, participated actively in 2 workshops about Social Entrepreneurship by Alma Natura, and have done great volunteering at Hogar Betania during the Garden Project. They are even starting up their own student-led business by themselves, which you will hear more about soon! Our students make a difference and are changing the world!
