Dear Parents and guardians, Thank you for supporting the Christmas fair last weekend. It was a real community event, bringing local businesses, Sotogrande SA and the school together to share some festive spirit. The songs from the choirs and snow machine at the end really topped the afternoon off. I would like to publicly thank Maddy Maclachlan and the PTA for their vision and determination to make the event happen. ![]() The Christmas fair launched the start of our choir tour. The students toured bringing festive joy to 6 venues in 2 days, singing on live radio, in the old people’s home in San Enrique and in La Cañada to name a few places. ![]() On Monday we invited prospective parents from Fundamentals to SIS to experience the school. They spent the morning with the staff and students learning all about SIS. This was further supported on Tuesday, by our P3 students visiting Fundamentals to lead some Christmas activities for all! ![]() Tuesday evening saw the start of the Theatre Festival with an M4 extravaganza which was centered on a failing circus. There was a wealth of talent on display as students bravely performed this thought provoking play, written jointly by Mr. Maloney and the MYP drama students themselves. Wednesday evening’s theatre audience was treated to four short, ‘dark’ and immensely powerful plays by D1 and D2 students. These experimental pieces, which as part of the Diploma Theatre course are devised and directed totally by the students, showcased some impressive physical theatre demonstrating the high level of trust that has been engendered within each ensemble. ![]() On my walkabout this week, I visited P1 who were investigating 2D and 3D shapes. We had some lovely discussions about the differences including how to define prisms. The students showed a really good understanding of shapes and how to classify them. I also went into EC1 to read them some Santa stories. We sat next to the log fires and read Bless you Santa. It was lovely to spend some time chatting to the students about what Christmas means to them and comparing foot sizes! ![]() The 2nd Polar Bear Challenge, which was due to have taken place this morning, has been postponed till next Tuesday morning when hopefully weather conditions will be more favourable. Good luck to our students Marta Romero, Sebastian Collins, Christian Collins, Leonie Schifler, Beau Coenraad and Sancho Rodríguez who will be playing the Doral Junior Golf Classic in Miami from the 17th to the 23th December. Finally I would like to remind you that term ends at 12pm on Wednesday 21st December. Best wishes, Jak Kearney

This year we have been very lucky to have many parents who have come into EC1 to share how their families and home countries celebrate Christmas. So far we have had Nikolai’s mum talking about UK, Candela’s mum about Spain, Lochlan’s mum about Ireland, Lucas’s dad about Holland, Matthew’s mum about France, Lihi’s mum about Israel and Noah’s mum about Denmark. Thank you to all these parents who have really enriched the learning for our EC1 students. And, we have more to come! ![]() Connecting with Fundamentals, our Early Years centre On Monday Miss Lucia, our Early Childhood Coordinator and myself held a coffee morning for parents of children at Fundamentals. Accompanied by Ana Gauni who coordinates our Fundamentals’ team the parents were able to visit the Einstein building, learn about our curriculum and talk with our EC1 teachers. ![]()
On Tuesday 13thDecember the Primary Spanish teachers and P3 students spent a morning at Fundamentals, sharing songs,
stories and Christmas games in Spanish with our youngest children. We all enjoyed it very much and celebrated the
beginning of Christmas together. Pants and Socks After a visit by Miss Judy from Nabugabo, we found out that the children at the Nabugabo School had no socks or underwear. Primary students decided to change this and set about organising a pants and socks collection. Reverse Advent Calendar Initiative The Primary Student Council have this week completed their reverse Advent calendar initiative. The idea was for each child to bring a package of food instead of receiving an advent chocolate. ![]()
On Wednesday this week a group of our younger Russian-speaking students met with secondary Russian teacher Mrs. Sokolova to listen to a story about a kind little robin and his deeds round Christmas time. We had a good turn-out of students from P1 – P4, some fun activities organised by some of our Russian D1 students and plenty of Russian books kindly donated for the SIS library by Russian parents (many thanks to them). There will be more get-togethers for Russian primary students next year. ![]()

We were shown around by Professor David Sales Lérida. The students visited laboratories dealing with concrete and soil (“The Concrete Lab”) as well as Materials Science. After lunch we still visited the machine shop and the welding shop. This visit gave the students an excellent opportunity to see science at a university level, and was well received.
