Dear Parents and Guardians, Dear Parents and Guardians, I would like to start by informing you about our Family trip to Asni this year. Following the magical experiences our Diploma students have had in Asni over the years, we wish to open this up to our community, to allow parents and children to share the experiences and help make a difference. The great news is that we still have some places to fill! The cost (all inclusive – travel, food, accommodation, etc.) is 330€ for adults and 255€ for children. If you are interested, please email KP team at kpteam@sis.gl ![]()

Tuesday saw the launch of our Activities Fair. It was lovely to see the wealth of activities being offered this year by our community. I would like to point out the number of help clubs that exist, with an aim of supporting students to fill gaps in their learning. The road to mastery is a difficult one, as children need opportunities to seek additional help, input or advice on areas or topics that they have not understood in the first interactions. The help sessions are one way to access this, however we also have our D1 mentoring programme, our digital platforms (Myimaths, Mathletics, Spellzone, Reading Eggs, Duolingo) and our Google sites in many Diploma classes which are set up for students to work independently to develop their learning and work towards mastery of difficult areas. ![]() On Thursday and Friday this week we held our year group bonding trips for students from M1 to D1. I will write more about these next week. ![]()

Primary School News Message from Emma Butler, Head of Primary First Primary Workshop of this academic year On Tuesday and Wednesday 13th and 14th of September, Andrea Bennett, PYP coordinator led workshops in Spanish and English for parents of Early Childhood students. The focus of the workshop was ‘The Brain’; providing an opportunity for parents to learn a little about recent brain research and its impact on our approach to teaching and learning at SIS. The structure of the brain and some key features about the nature of neurons were explored using fun, interactive activities. By applying the approaches that we believe work well for students, an atmosphere was created that allowed for parents to ask questions, make connections with their previous knowledge and to consider the expectations they have as parents. ![]() Feedback gathered from parents after the workshop included… Approach to the workshop was very entertaining and enjoyable. She knows how to explain something very complicated in a simple and visual way. It makes me feel safe and satisfied the fact that my children are enrolled in the school The importance of respecting the ability of each child, not forcing knowledge and encourage learning from experience. Next week there will be another workshop with the focus on ‘The Structure of the PYP’ and this is primarily for new parents or parents who have not been able to attend this workshop before. Primary Swimming Galas Next week our Primary School will celebrate their swimming unit by participating in swimming galas. Parents are welcome to come and watch their children and see the improvements they have made in swimming. ![]() P1 & P2 – Monday 19th September from 10 am to 12 pm
