Message from the Head
Dear Parents and Guardians, On Monday our D2 students began the last part of their journey by starting their final IB exams. Being a national holiday, it was a tough day to start their exams on, but they all made it on time, supported by a number of teachers and various support staff. I would like to publically wish them the best of luck for their three-week journey. I would like to remind you that all clubs that require the sports hall have been cancelled until May 23rd and ask for your help and support in monitoring noise levels around the exam halls. These are placed in the new Picasso building (lower floor) and in the sports hall. Over the weekend our Under 14 football teams took part in the Mediterranean football tournament in Verona, Italy. This year the teams left with high hopes, SIS having been victorious recently in both other levels of this competition, the Under 11 tournament in Verona and Under 18 tournament in Portugal. Both the girls and the boys made the semi finals at the end of 2 days of intense and high-tension football. The girls team made the 3rd and 4th play off spot and ended up 4th in their first International tournament, while the boys ended up going to the final and winning by 2 goals to 0. This is an amazing achievement; with 48 teams from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, we were the only school to progress to the semi finals with both teams! Mr. Gibson, Mr. Dennis, Ash Thomas and Marre Neiman were all amazed by the teams’s dedication, commitment and support of each other. As always they were a real pleasure to take away and reflected our wonderful school very strongly. Congratulations to all concerned! On Tuesday the secondary students arrived to school to be surprised by staff as we took away the normal timetable and created a pastoral day. The students moved through a number of activities from cyber bullying to stress management, from relationships to sexual education, from money management to the creation of CVs. Their pastoral teams had worked hard to create some innovative and student friendly activities, which were evaluated well by students. Sincere thanks to everyone involved! On Tuesday evening the SI stage school performed their show The Little Mermaid. Tickets were sold out almost immediately for the two nights. Congratulations to all of the participants who have worked so hard to produce a show for our community and well done to Miss Swords and Miss Reed who worked tirelessly to support the drive of the students and create a wonderful extravaganza of drama, singing and dance. Thank you to everyone who has completed the Endicott survey. If you have not already done so, please click on this link www.endicottresearchcenter.net and enter this code CNP2016765 then select the language of your choice. Unfortunately in this CIS evaluation tool it is slightly confusing which age groups some of our students are linked to. Please refer to this table if you are unsure.
Finally to remind you that from Monday we will be using our new card entry system. If you have not already had your photo taken and collected your new ID card, you will need to bring formal photo ID to school on Monday, in order to enter the campus. If you then make your way to reception, people will be on hand to get a photo of you, which will enable us to create you a card the day after. On the back of this ID card will be the Assist free membership card which gives a number of privileges and discounts specially negotiated for whole SIS community. Offers can be checked at http://assist.guide/#offers. Best wishes, Jak Kearney Link to instructions for Parent photos in Managebac 2016
Whole School News Netball Last Thursday saw our first SIS Staff vs Students Netball match. Congratulations to the staff who were victorious over the students. The staff commented on how well the students worked as a team and how they have shown great commitment and development of their skills over the past few months. The students are eagerly awaiting their rematch in the autumn term. Sotosol Walk 2016 ![]()
Family Fun Day postponed Due to the bad weather forecast this weekend the Family Fun Day has been rescheduled for Saturday 4th June. Tickets will be back on sale from 24 th May. PTA News The next general PTA meeting will be held on Thursday May 12th at 09.00 in the cantina. Primary School News This week Andy Dick came into the Primary assembly to launch the 20th Sotosol Walk 2016, which takes place on Saturday 28th May to raise funds for his daughter’s organisation “Danii’s Charity”, which raises funds to support very sick children and their families in an incredible number of ways. There is a new course for the walk this year; it will start and finish at the Trocodero Beach Club. There is a planned 8km route, which can be completed once or twice by walkers/runners. Dogs are welcome on the walk, but will not in the children’s area at the Beach Club. All primary children are encouraged to complete their sponsor form for the walk, and we would like encourage as many families as possible to participate in this fantastic community charity event. P6 have been working extremely hard over the last few weeks. Their exhibition preparation time is nearly over! We hope you will be able to come and see their projects and talk to the students about their work. ![]()
Boarding News Last weekend was an action-packed one at the Boarding House. The Boarders went go-karting on Saturday, followed by a trip to Isla Magica Theme Park on Sunday. All the students had a phenomenal time in Seville and were thoroughly scared to bits! On the Monday, we all went off to the new Captain America: Civil War film and ate our collective body-weight in popcorn! This weekend we are off to have helicopter lessons in Marbella…yes, this will involve Boarders flying real helicopters!! |
