Sebastian and Christian Collins joined our Sport and Education Programme in September 2014 and September 2015 respectively, looking for an alternative that would support them, not only to pursue a career in golf with Jason Floyd Golf Academy but also help them to achieve academic success.
Specifically designed with young sports people in mind, the Elite Sports and Education Programme programme has allowed Sebastian and Christian to do exactly that, providing a perfect blend of classroom contact time, as well as the opportunity to practise and compete at an elite level.
After a successful trip to the USA their father, Mr Collins, took the time to email an update of their progress to the school and explained just how well the programme was working for his sons.
Dear Mr Stone,
I’m not sure you if you have been informed about my boys trip to the USA? They performed unbelievably well!
Sebastian’s handicap dropped to 2.6. He mixed it up with some of the best young players in the States. He was leading his last 4 Hurricane Junior Tour comps going into the back 9 on the last day. Unfortunately he couldn’t finish it off. Nevertheless, he qualified for the national championships in December. Which considering the shortest course was 6700 yards, was quite amazing. He is now ranked 3rd in Florida under 16. He also was under par back 9, around the Bear Trap at the Honda Classic and had a Hole in One on the 5th. He finished 9th in the u16 group which was one of his best performances due to the quality of the field. What an experience for him. Plus he has done his college prospects no harm.
Christian … found the first few competitions quite daunting. Stage fright I suppose, but as the tour went on he started to enjoy the competitions. He then shot low round after round, with a 74 as the highlight. His handicap came crashing down to 5.9, which for a 13 year old is quite astonishing. He also managed to place third in his final competition which qualifies him for the state championships. WOW. Two boys qualified.
This is no fluke. Jason Floyd Golf Academy and Sotogrande International School have allowed my boys to partake in this situation. I have witnessed both of them corresponding daily with SIS. They have tried to their best ability to keep up with the school work, train 3-4 hours every day, without any motivation needed from my part. They have performed every weekend since leaving school without a day off. I thank the school for allowing this situation to happen, as it’s beyond the norm. To have all doors closed at previous schools, and to find a school like SIS that only helps and understands every child’s academic and sporting needs is quite special. Most of this is can be attributed to you. We’ve come a long way since our first email.
