Inter School Debate with Aloha College
On Friday 25th January, Mrs McCann took two teams of D1 and M5 students to Aloha College, Marbella to participate in the first inter-school debate.
The First Team
The first team, arguing for the proposition comprised of Marija S, Ignacio B and Violeta V. This team were victors in debating that ´This house would argue that the rise of social networking is having a negative impact on our society´.
The Second Team
The second team had the challenging motion ´This house would use affirmative action to resolve historical injustice´. Sadly not winning this debate, Jackson J, Thomas dL and Marija S put forward a formidable opposition team, and the judges said it was extremely close.
Star of the First Debate
Congratulations to Ignacio Benito Labrador, second speaker and summary speaker for the Proposition, who was nominated as the ‘star’ in the first debate.
It was a fun, friendly event that allowed students to get first-hand experience of the logistics, and demands of a formal debate, whilst practising persuasive speaking techniques against other students. We look forward to the return debate sometime in the near future.
Building Self Confidence
Opportunities such as these help to build self-confidence, improve communication skills and allows us to make connections with people and influence decisions. If you are a secondary student and would like to get involved in debating and other public speaking events, please contact Mrs McCann.
