We believe that education is a lifelong process. At SIS, the Upper School programme promotes holistic education for 16 to 18 year olds to ensure intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth is nurtured. We aim to educate individuals in a comprehensive manner, and at this stage, our teaching methods foster a dynamic combination of knowledge, skills, independent critical analysis, creative thought processes, and international awareness.

The majority of our High School students study for the full IB Diploma. However, we recognise that each child is unique with different talents and needs; therefore, we offer alternative learning pathways: the SIS High School Diploma pathway and the International A Level route. 

We believe strongly in the efficacy of experiential and service learning and all high school students are expected to participate in Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). CAS is at the heart of our diploma programmes and is of great value to our senior students at SIS. Throughout this course, we provide extensive global citizenship options and community service opportunities.

We also offer the SIS High School Diploma, which is internally assessed over the last four years of High School and often accompanied by the American SAT exams.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a rigorous 2-year programme, students will be examined after their second year of the course, and will also be required to submit coursework as part of the assessment process. The DP is widely-respected by prestigious universities around the world.

Choosing the IB Diploma Programme has many advantages. We train hard-working, empathic, autonomous students and provide them with a broad vision of life, and the world.

High School Diploma

We offer an American-style High School Diploma. Students may undertake a combination of core and elective courses over the last four years of Secondary School which will lead to the High School Diploma. These courses are assessed internally, and the HSD is awarded to students who satisfy the graduation requirements. Students following DP courses will also be eligible for the SIS High School Diploma, subject to fulfilling graduation requirements, and regularly sitting SAT examinations to support their HSD. This route of study is accredited by the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Collages).

American High School diploma in Spain

International A Levels

The International A-level route is offered through our Elite Sports programme. This international programme is designed to offer elite sports students the opportunity to pursue additional sports pursuits, including golf and tennis, and is offered in collaboration with sports academies. Currently, we are in partnership with two sports academies: the Jason Floyd Golf Academy (JFGA) and SotoTennis.

High School Diploma Graduation Requirements:

The SIS High School Diploma will be awarded to students subject to the satisfactory completion of the requirements as outlined by the accrediting bodies. In addition, students must achieve a minimum of 24 full-year credits, in accordance with the table below. A minimum level 3 is required to receive credit. Grades are awarded annually in June.

We care about the long-term health of our student body, which is why SIS offers a wide variety of freshly prepared meals. Tailor-made menus are designed monthly by an expert nutritionist, and dishes are cooked in our school kitchen using whole, healthy ingredients of the highest standard. Bus Routes

Getting to school may be challenging for students that travel to school via public transport. For the convenience of our students and their families, our school bus routes collect and drop children to their local neighbourhoods. Our buses are equipped with all the comfort and safety systems necessary for students to access the school securely. Our bus routes are available for those living in Tarifa, Gibraltar, Nueva Andalucía, and Estepona.
