Headmaster 1. SIS Pilot Lite Project - Creative Media, Technology and Global Citizenship: We are delighted to announce a new pilot project that will bring together three key strands of our philosophy for learning in the 21st century - creativity, technology and global citizenship. Starting in September 2010, located in the beautiful Cortijo Los Canos, SIS will be running a pilot project for students age 16+. We will be offering a programme of individualised learning that will focus on key skills in creative media, cutting edge technology and global citizenship. Participants will also have the opportunity for developing workplace skills through placements and setting up their own small business projects. A key element of this programme will be to establish a Non-Governmental Agency (NGO) as a vehicle for us to achieve global citizenship and social entrepreneurial goals. For more information, please contact Iván Nieves, Judy Harris, Dave Batten, Tracy Moxley, Tina Farrell or Pippa Ireton. 2. The personal project has been a superb learning experience for M5 students and an excellent preparation for the IB diploma extended essay. Many thanks go to the Personal Project supervisors Belén González, Juani Carrasco, Zoe Perry, Sam Reed, Mark Barling, and Chris Charleson who supported and guided the students. Very special thanks go to Martin Grist for coordinating the entire process. 6. D1 Senior Maths Competition: Stella Schuck, Bogdan Ciuta and David Eriksen, took part in the 13th ISMTF senior mathematics competition last weekend. This year's event took place in the beautiful city of Potsdam, which lies in north-eastern Germany, on the Havel River near Berlin. The event was attended by 186 of the best mathematicians from across the globe. The competition consisted of both individual and team rounds. All three of our students are to be congratulated on their achievements, in particular, Bogdan who came 50th overall in the individual event. As the majority of the competitors were from D2, this is quite an accomplishment. They are already planning their return for next year! Many thanks go to Chris Charleson and Richard Stevenson who prepared the students for this competition. 7. D1 Asni Visit: Every year D1 CAS students visit the Berber community in Asni, Morocco, providing much needed help and work. As part of this year's visit, CAS students would like to take musical instruments for the girl's school there. Apart from raising money to buy new instruments to take, they would gratefully welcome any donations of new or used instruments. The ideal instruments would include guitars, small drums, harmonicas, recorders, maracas etc. as these can be easily carried over. Any donations can be given to Alex Martin (D1), a member of the CAS staff or left at reception. Thank you. Sport and Activities News Results 1.
