Headmaster 1. International Baccalaureate Heads Council: We are pleased to announce that Christopher Charleson has been elected to the IB Heads Council which is a group of 13 IB heads that act as representatives of IB schools worldwide and as advisors to the IB governing board. 2. Creative Media & Technology and Global Citizenship: We are delighted to announce a new pilot project that will bring together three key strands of our philosophy for learning in the 21st century - creativity, technology and global citizenship. Starting in September 2010, located in the beautiful Cortijo Los Canos, SIS will be running a pilot project for students age 16+. We will be offering a programme of individualised learning that will focus on key skills in creative media, cutting edge technology and global citizenship. Participants will also have the opportunity for developing workplace skills through placements and setting up their own small business projects. A key element of this programme will be to establish a Non-Governmental Agency (NGO) as a vehicle for us to achieve global citizenship and social entrepreneurial goals. For more information, please contact Iván Nieves, Judy Harris, Dave Batten, Tracy Moxley, Tina Farrell or Pippa Ireton. 3. M5 ISTA Theatre trip to London: Nineteen students returned from London invigorated and inspired by a wealth of theatrical experiences from the ISTA High School Festival in London during half-term. Students saw the magical "Billy Elliot" and the wonderfully jaw-dropping "STOMP", both of which showed a variety of theatrical skills. However the most valuable experiences were the workshops and the chance to work alongside students from international schools in Istanbul, Shanghai, Moscow and London. By the end of the trip our students were skilled performers in a range of areas and had forged firm new friendships. We are currently in discussion with ISTA about hosting a Middle School Festival at SIS next year. Thanks to all students for their hard work and for making our school proud. Special thanks to Sam Reed and Tina Farrell for coordinating and leading this exciting and inspiring trip 4. M5 Art Exhibition: Last Thursday evening M5 Visual Arts students presented their unit on "What makes the Hero?" Many talented students showed, through art work and writing, their thoughts on some very challenging metaphysical questions. Staff, parents and students enjoyed the exhibition and for many students it was an opportunity to present their work to a public audience and to talk about the development of their work. Thank you to all staff who came and to those who have actively supported the students in the exhibition including Anne Adamson, Pilar Francis, Helen Miles, Martin Grist and Dave Batten. Special thanks go to Margaret O'Farrell for bringing out the best in our students and coordinating this event. 5.
