Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The Middle Years Program (MYP) is guided by three fundamental concepts: Holistic Learning, Intercultural Awareness and Communication. The MYP provides a coherent link between the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Diploma Programme. Our aim is to help you develop as a person to become enquiring, knowledgeable and caring: to learn how to learn and to evaluate information critically. We want you to have a genuine intercultural understanding and to care about what´s going on in the rest of the world.
There are five areas of interaction (Approaches to Learning, Community and Service, Human Ingenuity, Environments, and Health and Social Education). These areas of interaction help you connect the subjects you are studying with the real world. You will study authentic world issues, relevant to you, such as human rights, environmental change and identity.
Your work is continuously assessed over the course of the program, according to specific criteria as set by the IB. In M5, the final year of MYP, you will be asked to complete a Personal Project. This is a significant, independent piece of creative work on a subject of your choice. It provides an opportunity for all students to show a real commitment to the completion of a project which demonstrates your ability to organize and create a work of significant importance. You will receive guidance from a supervisor who will help you organize your work and offer advice on fulfilling the criteria.
This work is marked by SIS staff and some samples of work are sent to the IBO for moderation. There are no external examinations in the MYP, but you will receive, on completion of the program, an SIS MYP Certificate, a Record of Achievement and a Portfolio of Achievement, which will include the best of your work.
