Headmaster

1.        International Book Fair: An international book fair, selling both English and Spanish titles, will be held in the Studio on Thursday 23rd February from 09.00 - 17.00. Students will have the opportunity to browse the displays (younger children with their class teacher) and     make purchases during the school day. Parents and friends are invited to visit at any time.

2. Sotosol walk: the annual Sotosol charity walk and fun run has been scheduled for  Saturday 12 May. Please put this date in your diary and more information will be forthcoming. This year, Andrew Dick will be organizing the event and would like to set up a running/jogging club in advance of the walk/run to help train participants for the 16km course. Andrew has much experience in this field having run 6 marathons and many triathlons. The proceeds this year will go towards his daughter Danii´s charity which she has set up as a result of her own experience in the last year with illness.

3. Calendar and events: Please note parents can keep up-to-date with events by accessing the online calendarhttp://www.sis.ac/monthly-calendar . This calendar is constantly updated to reflect the latest information for all activities at SIS including, parent consultations, exams, sports events, school trips etc. Please check it regularly.

4.     Chess Club: this new club is starting on Tuesday and will happen every Tuesday lunchtime from 1.50- 2.30 upstairs in the Secondary building.

Primary
1.       EC2 "Circle of Life" Trip: the children in EC2 enjoyed a day last week exploring the water cycle, beginning and ending at the sea, and visiting along the way the purification plant in La Linea. They now understand where water comes from and where it goes to.

2. P6 Trip to Istan Dam: the students of P6  visited Istan Dam last week to explore the use of natural phenomena in the wider community, in this case water. This is part of their unit of inquiry on Natural Phenomena, in which they have looked at earthquakes and volcanoes too.

3.       Olympic poster competition: Three students from P6, Pippa Smith, Carmela Motrán and Ines Mico Aldeguer have had their paintings selected to enter a nationwide competition to choose a poster for the 2012 Olympics in London.

4. New Brownie pack starting soon! At last the Brownies are coming to Pueblo Nuevo. Angela O´Hara is starting a new pack which will meet weekly at Little Brains in Pueblo Nuevo. The first meeting will be on Friday 24 February at 6pm. All English speaking girls of between 7 and 10 years are able to join and the places will be on a 'first come first served' basis. There is room initially for 24 girls. If you would like any further information about this, or would like to book a place for your daughter please call Angela on 634 477 170.

5.      Swim Gala: 12 students from P5 & P6 will be taking part in a friendly swimming gala at Swans on Tuesday 7 February The gala will take start at 1:00 and finish about 3:30. Due to the small area, the event is limited to the swimmers and their teachers only.

1.    D2 Theatre group: Wednesday 8 January students will be conducting experimental research off-site in Sotogrande from 10.40-12.45

2.     Student journalists:  For the last seven years our students have been contributing to CADIZ NEWS, a high quality on-line newspaper edited by David Eade, a well respected journalist with vast experience of working in the industry.

Since Christmas a fresh team has been in place, as the D2 students have "retired" from their duties to concentrate upon their IB Diploma studies. At present four D1 students (Rory Jones, Charlotte Vystavel, Elizabeth Waterous and Diana Batchelor) are contributing to "As We See It", a weekly column in which they give their views on current local and international news. Rosanna Chapell and Sophie Young are presenting a fortnightly column on the world of fashion, "Fashionista". Robert Duckworth is introducing a new fortnightly sports column, "Cadiz Sport". 3. The Magnificence of Ancient Persia:The art of Isfahan, Shiraz and ancient Persepolis. Christopher Bradley – Author, lecturer and expert in the history and culture of the Middle East and North Africa,will be delivering a lecture on this fascinating subject on Tuesday, 14 February at 3pm in the school theatre.

4. Rock the CASbah: Friday 17 February 7pm. Join us for an evening of live music and Indian cuisine  brought to you from the students in D1. Tickets at €15 including dinner are available in advance at Reception or on the school gate at 4pm . Numbers limited so please buy early! All proceeds will go to the Kindred Project activities in Asni Morocco.

5.  UK Maths Challenge: last Thursday students in M3,4 & 5 took part in a maths challenge aimed at students aged 13-16. We have sent off the papers and are awaiting the results. Another Junior competition aimed at M1 &2 will take place on 26 April. 1. Castellar castle walk of discovery: Monday 6 February. Departing school at 9am by car. Walk around the castle, visit of the old fortification and the old water sources. Return to school by about 11.30am. An easy walk and everyone is welcome.

2. Women only: International Women´s Day Thursday 8 March. Open to all - an international women’s breakfast at Véronique’s house from 9 am. You can walk from the school (about 20 minutes of hilly walk) or drive (about 2 minutes from school). SIGA Golf:  In the Copa de Baleares last weekend Enrique Marín finished 23rd in the entire competition and 3rd in The Cadet category. This has been in immense week for Enrique and he has done fantastically well. Our congratulations go both to Enrique and Juan Antonio, our SIGA Coach.
