Admissions Process

The objective of the admissions process is to assess the readiness of children to perform with success in the year to which they are applying and in the school as a whole.

Initial application

  • Application for a place in the school may be made by completing and returning the application form along with all appropriate documents and payment of the registration fee. The registration fee covers the cost of meeting with senior staff as part of the application process and other associated administrative costs. It is not returnable in any circumstances.
  • The latest report from the applicant's current school must be submitted with the completed application form or as soon as possible thereafter.
  • On receipt of the application, the applicant and family will be invited to visit the school. On the day of the visit, the applicant and family will meet with key staff and be given a tour of the school.
  • During the visit, the applicant will complete a pupil profile form and will be expected to sit an entrance/placement test and/or be interviewed. (The applicant should bring two passport photographs with them on the day of the visit.)
  • The entrance/placement test may be taken, by special arrangement, at the applicant's current school.

Offer of a Place

A place may be offered according to the following criteria:

  • Interview with the applicant
  • Results of the written assessments
  • Quality of previous school reports
  • Priority is given to children who already have siblings in the school

A place can only be offered to the applicant when all the entry requirements are satisfied. Once a place has been offered, the admissions contract must be returned within two weeks, along with the documents listed below.

The deposit and endowment fund must also be paid within two weeks of the offer. The deposit is returnable, according to school regulations, when the pupil leaves the school. The pupil's place is not secure until all the above conditions have been satisfied. The school reserves the right to make conditional offers of placement for review after a specified period.

If the number of applications exceeds the number of vacancies, successful candidates may be placed on the school's waiting list. Those on the waiting list are placed in order according to the criteria above and not according to the date of application. Applicants will be updated on their waiting list status at regular intervals.

Documentation

The following documents should be submitted with the admissions contract.

  • A certified photocopy of a birth certificate, libro de familia, identity card or passport
  • The completed medical form
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • A completed direct debit form
  • A certificate of convalidation of previous studies from the Spanish Ministry of Education (for those applicants wishing to continue with the LOGSE programme)

Applicants may also submit any other certificates from previous schools to assist placement or provide further information. All information regarding the child's education prior to arriving at Sotogrande International School must be submitted at the time of application (e.g. distinctions, merits, special educational needs reports, discipline record etc). If any relevant information is withheld at the time of application, the school has the right to withdraw the place at a later date
